An expert meeting dedicated to the creation and development of geoparks in the Republic of Karakalpakstan was held.

An expert meeting dedicated to the creation and development of geoparks in the Republic of Karakalpakstan was held at the International Innovation Center of the Aral Sea Region. The participants discussed the possibilities of implementing a model of sustainable nature management and promoting the scientific, educational, and ecotourism potential of the region based on international experience.

Special attention was paid to the successful examples of the geoparks «GEOPARK ARAL» (Republic of Kazakhstan), «Yangentau» and «Turatag» (Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia), which are recognized sites of UNESCO. These geoparks are unique natural science areas that combine the protection of geological and cultural heritage with the rapid development of the local community through science, education, and sustainable tourism.

GEOPARK ARAL — The first geopark in Central Asia, located in the Aral district of the Kyzylorda region of Kazakhstan. On its territory, there are 24 unique objects, including the former bottom of the Aral Sea, the Kokaral Dam, Barsakelmes Island, the thermal springs of Aksu, archaeological and historical-cultural monuments. The geopark is an exemplary platform for the implementation of comprehensive programs in the fields of ecology, science, and tourism.

The event was attended by heads and business managers of existing geoparks in Karakalpakstan, representatives of tourism organizations in Karakalpakstan, environmental protection and scientific workers, as well as Rector of Karakalpak State University, Academician A. Reymov. The practice of creating and effectively managing geoparks, tools for attracting investments, and the experience of involving the local population in the implementation of ecotourism initiatives were presented.
